About

“Cut & Paste” is the first solo show by Toronto-based, Mexican artist Cuxo (Augusto Quijano).

Originally trained in drawing and painting, Cuxo began his professional career over 15 years ago as a concept artist/animator in the videogame industry and has remained in the space ever since. Today, he is the Art Director of award-winning Drinkbox Studios.

This exhibit consists of a collection of work all created within the last year and mostly consisting of collages, a medium Cuxo began experimenting with almost by chance in his free time. He found that collage offered a striking contrast to the strategic process involved in creating video game art. There is a refreshing immediacy to it and it has inherent limitations, unlike digital art. It's an organic, tactile process involving simple tools and simple shapes that can be put together in a way that creates complexity.

Cuxo’s collage art aims to distill a subject matter into bold, colourful, and rhythmic compositions, expanding on a shape language that he’s explored throughout his artistic career.

Over 100 works will be on display and for sale.
